Search engine optimisation (SEO) earns your business free, lasting visibility in Google’s organic results. For Indian businesses it matters more every year: India had 1.03 billion internet users in late 2025, according to DataReportal, and many of them search online before they ever call a supplier. SEO doesn’t charge you per click like ads do, but it isn’t free. You pay for expertise, content, technical work and time.
That’s where the confusion starts. Ask five providers for a quote and you might hear ₹5,000 a month from one and ₹1,00,000 from another, for what sounds like the same service.
Key trends affecting SEO costs in India in 2026:
- Prices are rising. In GoodFirms’ 2026 survey, “54.3% of agencies in this survey increased their pricing during 2025–2026”. The most common reason, cited by 37%, was GEO and AEO work, meaning optimisation for AI search engines and answer boxes.
- AI search is changing the work. Content now has to be clear and expert enough to be cited in Google’s AI Overviews and in tools like ChatGPT, which takes more effort than old-style keyword work. Not sure how the two approaches differ? Read our guide on GEO vs SEO.
- Monthly retainers dominate. GoodFirms found “60.6% of agencies in this survey use monthly retainers as their primary pricing model”.
This guide explains the real SEO cost in India in 2026. Where we quote prices, they come from 13 Indian agencies’ published price lists (checked on 10 October 2026) or from named surveys. Understanding SEO Costs
What SEO is, and what your fee pays for
SEO is the work of making your website easier for search engines to find, understand and trust, so it ranks for searches your customers make. An SEO fee isn’t a payment to Google, because you can’t buy organic rankings. You pay for the work that earns them:
- Research: keyword research, competitor analysis and planning.
- On-page work: titles, headings, content and internal links.
- Content: blog posts, service pages and product descriptions.
- Technical fixes: site speed, mobile usability, indexing and structured data.
- Off-page work: link building, citations and your Google Business Profile.
- Reporting: rankings, traffic, leads, and what will be done next.
Factors that influence SEO pricing in India
Several things move SEO pricing in India up or down:
- Competition: ranking a clinic in a small town takes far less work than ranking a national e-commerce brand.
- Website size: packages often scale with the number of pages optimised. One price list we checked moves from 20 to 50 to 100 pages across its plans.
- Number of keywords: starter plans commonly target 10–25 keywords; advanced plans target 50–100 or more.
- Content volume: the number of articles per month is one of the biggest cost drivers.
- Link building: genuine, relevant backlinks take outreach and time.
- Reporting and support: weekly reports and a dedicated manager cost more than a monthly email.
- Experience: an established team with senior strategists charges more than a new freelancer.
SEO Pricing Models
Indian SEO providers mainly use four pricing models.
Monthly retainers
You pay a fixed monthly fee for an agreed scope of ongoing work. This is the most common model.
- Pros: steady progress; a predictable budget; suits SEO, which builds over months.
- Cons: you need a clear list of deliverables, or you may pay for little activity.
Hourly rates
Common for consultants and one-off advice. GoodFirms’ listing of 10,530 SEO companies in India says “the median hourly rate is $25”. In an earlier Ahrefs survey, “85.7% of India-based SEOs charge an hourly rate of $30 or less”.
- Pros: you pay only for time used; good for training or second opinions.
- Cons: the total is hard to predict; doesn’t suit long-term campaigns.
Project-based pricing
A fixed price for a defined job, such as an audit, a site migration or a technical clean-up. Ahrefs found “93.75% of India-based SEOs charge $1,500 or less” per project (a 2023–24 poll).
- Pros: clear scope and cost; ideal for one-time fixes.
- Cons: no ongoing work, so rankings may stall once the project ends.
Performance-based pricing
You pay only for rankings or leads.
- Pros: looks low-risk on paper.
- Cons: Google doesn’t sell rankings and nobody can guarantee them, and “pay for rankings” deals can reward risky tactics. Treat guarantees with caution.
Which model should you choose?
For most businesses, a monthly retainer gives the best value, because SEO results build steadily over months. Use a project fee for a one-time audit or migration, and an hourly consultant if you have an in-house team that needs expert guidance. Whichever model you choose, insist on a written scope so you know exactly what your SEO services cost in India covers.
Breakdown of SEO Costs in India
Most packages bundle several kinds of SEO. Here’s what each costs when it’s priced on its own, based on the published price lists we checked.
On-page SEO
On-page SEO optimises your existing pages: titles, meta descriptions, headings, content, internal links and images. It’s part of almost every monthly plan, with the number of pages or keywords setting the price. Sold separately, one agency lists a one-time “on-page foundation” covering 15 keywords for ₹17,999.
Off-page SEO
Off-page SEO builds authority through backlinks, citations and mentions:
- Link volumes: starter plans list about 5 links a month; higher plans list 15–30 or more.
- Link cost: one Bengaluru agency estimates that genuinely earned, relevant backlinks “run ₹1,500–₹5,000+ each”.
Very cheap bulk links can do more harm than good.
Technical SEO
Technical SEO fixes speed, mobile usability, crawling, indexing, redirects and structured data. It’s often a one-time project before ongoing work begins:
- Technical fixes: published prices start from ₹15,000, and one agency lists a one-time technical package at ₹24,999.
- Audits: a standalone SEO audit starts from about ₹8,000.
Local and e-commerce SEO
Local SEO covers your Google Business Profile, citations and location pages. Published monthly plans start from about ₹9,999–₹17,999, and one agency’s most advanced local plan costs ₹45,000 a month.
E-commerce SEO covers category pages, product pages and product schema. Published plans range from about ₹15,000 to ₹75,000 a month, usually scaling with the number of products optimised each month.
Comparing costs across SEO agencies

Monthly SEO Packages in India
Typical packages and price ranges
We collected published monthly prices from 13 Indian SEO agencies across 10 cities:
| Service level | Typical range (middle half of plans) | Lowest seen | Highest seen | Median |
| Starter plan | ₹9,000–₹25,000 a month | ₹3,000 | ₹60,000 | ₹15,000 |
| Highest published plan | ₹37,500–₹1,00,000 a month | ₹12,000 | ₹1,50,000 | ₹55,000 |
Where a plan showed a range or “from” price, the lowest figure was used. GST treatment varies: some prices exclude tax and one is all-inclusive.
Two cautions:
- This isn’t the whole market. Agencies that publish prices tend to be smaller and budget-focused. Many established agencies, including ours, quote only after understanding your goals.
- Compare scope, not price. A ₹15,000 plan with 10 keywords and no content is a very different product from a ₹15,000 plan with 25 keywords and two blog posts.
What to expect in a monthly SEO package
Most monthly SEO packages in India include some combination of:
- a target number of keywords;
- on-page optimisation for a set number of pages;
- blog posts or articles each month;
- backlinks or local citations;
- Google Business Profile work (on local plans);
- monthly or fortnightly ranking and traffic reports.
Higher plans add more of each, plus competitor analysis, weekly reporting and a dedicated manager.
SEO Agency Pricing in India
How location and reputation affect pricing
SEO agency pricing in India varies with the type of provider:
- Freelancers are usually cheapest and suit small sites.
- Small agencies offer a team (content, technical, outreach) at moderate prices.
- Established agencies charge more for strategy, senior expertise and accountability.
Ahrefs’ global survey shows the same pattern: “On average, agencies charge $3,209 per month, while freelancers charge $1,348”. Indian prices are far lower, but the gap holds.
Location matters less than you might expect. In our sample, the lowest starter price came from a small Kerala agency (₹3,000 a month), while two Mumbai agencies had among the highest starter prices (₹30,000 and ₹60,000). Thirteen price lists are too few to prove a city-by-city pattern, though. Reputation, team size and scope move prices more. Most SEO work is delivered remotely, so you can hire outside your city if the team understands your market.
Examples of published agency pricing structures
These are real published price lists, with the agency names withheld, as shown on 10 October 2026:
- A Bengaluru agency prices by website size: ₹11,500, ₹19,750 and ₹37,500 a month for 20, 50 and 100 pages, with blog posts added in the upper tiers.
- A Jaipur consultancy offers ₹15,000, ₹35,000 and ₹75,000+ a month, scaling from 10 to 50+ keywords and from 5 to 30+ links. Its prices are stated as all-inclusive.
- A Guwahati agency offers ₹17,999 to ₹49,999 a month with no lock-in and “GST (18 percent) extra”, plus one-time packages such as a technical fix at ₹24,999.
- A Mumbai agency charges ₹30,000, ₹80,000 and ₹1,50,000 a month with a 6-month minimum term. Its top plan includes weekly reports and a dedicated project manager.
Lesson: the structure (pages, keywords, content, links and contract terms) tells you more than the headline price.
Questions to ask before you sign
- Who will do the work? A senior strategist, a junior executive or an outsourced team?
- What exactly is delivered each month? Ask for pages, keywords, content pieces and links in writing.
- How will results be reported? Will you see leads and traffic, or only rankings?
- What happens if you leave? Do you keep the content, accounts and reports?
- Can they show relevant work? Look for examples in your industry or city.
SEO Charges in India: A Detailed Look
Additional charges
Many SEO charges in India sit outside the basic package:
- Content writing: often billed separately (see our Content writing services). One Mumbai content agency’s prices start “at Rs. 1.5/word”.
- Link building: extra links beyond the plan may be charged per link.
- Audits and recovery: one agency lists penalty recovery “from ₹19,999” and an AI visibility (AEO) audit at ₹24,999.
- Competitor analysis: one consultancy charges “from ₹5,000”.
Hidden costs to watch out for
When comparing SEO services cost in India, check every quote for:
- GST: SEO is generally taxed under the GST rate for “Other professional, technical and business services” (Heading 9983) at 18%. So a ₹20,000 plan usually costs ₹23,600. Confirm the correct SAC code (the service tax code) with your CA.
- Minimum terms: some agencies set 4–6-month minimums; others are month-to-month.
- Developer time: technical recommendations often need your web developer to implement them, which may cost extra. If you don’t have one, our Website development team can help.
- Images and revisions: stock images, design work or extra rounds of revisions may be billed separately.
- Tool access: some providers charge for dashboards or premium tools.
- Exit terms: make sure your website, content and accounts stay yours if you leave.
Ask for an itemised quote that lists deliverables, exclusions and taxes.

Sample budgets by business type
Based on the published price ranges above, here’s a rough guide to the SEO cost in India for common situations. Treat it as a starting point; your competition and goals decide the final figure:
- Local service business (clinic, salon, showroom): a local SEO plan of about ₹10,000–₹18,000 a month, plus a one-time audit from about ₹8,000.
- Growing small or mid-size business: a mid-range plan of about ₹20,000–₹40,000 a month, including regular content.
- E-commerce or competitive B2B site: about ₹35,000–₹75,000 a month or more, because of larger sites and tougher competition.
- National brand in a crowded market: expect ₹1,00,000 a month or more, often with custom quotes.
Remember to add 18% GST, plus any separately billed content or development work.
Budgeting for SEO in 2026:
- Local businesses can start with focused local SEO on a modest budget.
- E-commerce and competitive B2B sites should plan for more.
- Whatever you choose, commit for at least six months: SEO compounds, and stopping early wastes progress. See what happens when you stop SEO.

Frequently Asked Questions
Published starter plans begin as low as ₹3,000 a month, but most fall between about ₹9,000 and ₹25,000. Very cheap plans usually include little real work.
Usually yes, at 18% under the rate for professional and technical services. Check whether quotes include tax.
Because providers include very different amounts of work. Keywords, pages, content, links, reporting and the seniority of the team all change the price, so always compare deliverables, not just the monthly figure.
Sometimes, for a small local business with little competition. But very low prices usually mean few deliverables or low-quality links, which can waste money or even harm your site.
Plan for at least six months. Many Indian agencies recommend a minimum of 3–6 months, because rankings build gradually.
